About us

About Us

Butter Fish Services® is an Aboriginal-owned and NDIS registered behaviour support and early intervention provider committed to empowering people, strengthening families and building connected communities.

We believe every person has the right to dignity, choice, connection and purpose — and that everyone has the capacity to learn, grow and thrive when provided with the right support and opportunities.

We provide individualised, evidence-based and culturally responsive behaviour support and early intervention for people of all ages. We support individuals with diverse and complex needs, including behaviours of concern, high-risk behaviours and forensic backgrounds.

As an Aboriginal-owned organisation, culture and connection are central to our practice. We recognise the importance of identity, family, community, Country, culture and belonging in achieving meaningful outcomes. Our services are culturally safe, respectful, inclusive and responsive to each person’s unique experiences, strengths and aspirations.

Our experienced behaviour specialists use person-centred, strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches. We look beyond behaviour to understand the person, their environment, communication, relationships and underlying needs.

We work alongside individuals, families, carers, schools, support teams and other professionals to build skills, strengthen support networks and create sustainable change.

Our focus is not simply on managing behaviour. We aim to improve quality of life, increase independence and participation, strengthen relationships, and support people to achieve their goals in ways that respect their rights, choices and culture.

We walk alongside people and families — building skills, strengthening connections and creating opportunities for meaningful change.

What we do

Our Services

We provide two core NDIS services, delivered with cultural safety at the centre of our practice.

Positive Behaviour Support

Positive Behaviour Support is about understanding why a person behaves the way they do and providing the right support to help them communicate their needs, develop skills and live a more fulfilling life.

At Butter Fish Services®, we look beyond behaviours of concern. We take the time to understand the person, their strengths, communication style, environment, relationships, experiences and individual needs.

Our approach is person-centred, strengths-based, trauma-informed and culturally responsive. We work collaboratively with individuals, families, carers and support networks to understand what is happening and develop practical strategies that support positive change.

Behaviour support may assist with:

  • Understanding the reasons behind behaviours of concern
  • Developing communication and emotional regulation skills
  • Building independence and daily living skills
  • Strengthening relationships and social participation
  • Supporting engagement in education and the community
  • Developing positive routines and supportive environments
  • Reducing behaviours that may place the person or others at risk
  • Building the skills and confidence of families, carers and support teams
  • Improving safety, wellbeing and quality of life

For people requiring specialist or complex behaviour support, we develop individualised strategies based on assessment, evidence and the person’s goals.

Where restrictive practices are relevant, we work towards reducing and eliminating their use wherever possible, while ensuring the person’s dignity, rights, safety and quality of life remain central.

Most importantly, behaviour support is not about changing who someone is. It is about understanding the person, supporting their needs, building their skills and creating an environment where they can thrive.

Our team of qualified and experienced Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners are registered with the NDIS and hold individual NDIS Practitioner IDs. Our practitioners are trained in behaviour support strategies and are committed to delivering professional, evidence-based, person-centred and culturally responsive support.

If you or a loved one could benefit from Positive Behaviour Support, our friendly team at Butter Fish Services® is here to help. Reach out to us today to learn how we can provide personalised, culturally responsive support to foster independence, strengthen connections and enhance wellbeing.

Early Childhood Intervention

Supporting Children to Learn, Grow and Thrive

Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) provides support to young children with developmental delays, disabilities or emerging support needs, helping them build skills, participate in everyday activities and reach their individual potential.

At Butter Fish Services®, we understand that every child develops differently. Our approach is child-centred, family-focused, strengths-based and culturally responsive, recognising the important role that families, carers and community play in a child’s development.

We work closely with children and their families to understand their strengths, needs, communication, behaviour, development and everyday environments. Together, we develop practical strategies that can be incorporated into the child’s daily routines at home, in early learning settings and within the community.

Our early childhood intervention may support children to:

  • Develop communication and language skills
  • Build social interaction and relationships
  • Develop emotional regulation and coping skills
  • Increase independence and daily living skills
  • Develop positive behaviours and routines
  • Participate in play and learning
  • Build confidence and engagement in early learning
  • Strengthen functional and developmental skills
  • Develop positive relationships with family and peers
  • Participate more fully in their home and community

We believe families are central to a child’s development. Rather than simply providing support to the child, we work alongside parents, carers, educators and other professionals to build their confidence, knowledge and skills.

Our goal is to provide practical strategies that can be used naturally within everyday routines and environments, helping children develop skills that are meaningful and sustainable.

As an Aboriginal-owned and NDIS registered provider, Butter Fish Services® is committed to delivering culturally safe and responsive support. We recognise the importance of family, community, culture, Country, identity and belonging in supporting children and their families.

The early years provide important opportunities for children to develop skills, build relationships and participate in their families and communities.

If you have concerns about your child’s development, communication, behaviour or participation, our friendly team is here to listen, understand your family’s needs and explore how we can help.
